This article does not aim to delve into or underscore the achievements of Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Edo, as his reputation is already well-established. Much like household names such as Closeup, which require no additional promotion for Nigerians to recognize and purchase, Akpata enjoys a similar level of recognition in Edo. His name is widely known and familiar to all residents.

Akpata is recognized as one of the most successful individuals in Nigeria and beyond, and is considered a leading lawyer due to his outstanding performance as President of the National Bar Association. Since announcing his gubernatorial ambition almost a year ago, he has garnered significant attention as the most talked-about candidate for governor in the state’s history. This attention is due to his hard work, diligence, accountability, transparency, honesty, passion for seeing Edo State and its people prosper, and his ability to connect with Edolites from all walks of life, among other factors.

Akpata emerged as the Labour Party’s flagbearer on February 23, 2024, after securing a decisive victory in a free and fair primary. Notably, the private sector expert began his political journey just a few months ago after a successful career as the founding partner of Templars, one of the leading law firms in Africa, and as Former President of the National Bar Association, Commissioner, among other significant roles.

It’s no secret that Edo State urgently needs a successor who embodies transparency, dedication, and a strong moral compass—someone with an impressive CV and a proven track record in previous roles. In this critical time, Akpata stands out as the only candidate who possesses all these qualities. As the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, he truly merits the opportunity to lead Edolites from Osadebe Avenue (Government House) and guide them toward a prosperous future.

While other candidates are still formulating their campaign strategies just weeks before Election Day, Akpata has already toured the state extensively and taken his campaign international with productive visits to London, Manchester, Rome, and other locations. Through this successful tour, he has had the opportunity to communicate extensively and share ideas with Edolites from all walks of life.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

The disclosure was made during the ongoing trial of senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome and Ponfa Useni before Justice Chizoba Oji of the FCT High Court.

An Immigration officer, Aridegbe Akim, who testified as the first prosecution witness, told the court that passport number A07535463 allegedly issued to one Tali Shani could not be traced in the agency’s database.

He explained that all Nigerian passports are electronically registered and can be verified through the system, but no matching record was found for the document in question.

Under cross-examination, the witness maintained that while the passport resembled genuine travel documents, it lacked any verifiable issuance record, which is required for authenticity.

Following the testimony, the prosecution requested additional time to present another witness, which was not opposed by the defence. The court adjourned the matter to May 18 for continuation of hearing.

The Federal Government, through the Attorney General’s office, is accusing the defendants of forging an international passport and legal documents allegedly used to support claims over a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London.

Dare made the remarks in a statement posted on his handle on Thursday, where he said Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambition is “dead on arrival.”

He argued that the interview did not project leadership or policy direction, but instead revealed contradictions and what he called a lack of substance on key national issues.

According to him, Atiku failed to present a clear alternative to the ongoing economic reforms, offering what he described as criticism without a workable roadmap.

Dare also said the former Vice President’s comments alienated several political and social groups, insisting that the interview reflected grievance rather than unity or leadership.

He maintained that Nigeria is currently undergoing necessary reforms, adding that citizens are already seeing progress rather than political promises.

The presidential aide concluded that Atiku is steadily losing political relevance, saying the interview only reinforced doubts about his leadership capacity.
