President Bola Tinubu is currently leading a crucial National Security Council meeting at the State House in Abuja. The gathering, which includes top security and law enforcement officials, is taking place in the President’s office amid ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and governance issues.
The meeting comes in the wake of President Tinubu’s recent nationwide broadcast, in which he urged protesters to cease demonstrations. Despite his appeal, protest organizers have rejected the call to end the unrest. Attending the meeting alongside the President are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Key figures in the security sector at the meeting include Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, the three service chiefs, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Service Yusuf Bichi, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ahmed Rufai, Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service Adewale Adeniyi, and Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service Kemi Nanna Nandap. The discussions are expected to address the current security challenges and coordinate responses to the ongoing protests.

He said his administration would operate a structured system that promotes participation and representation of all segments of society in governance.
The pledge was conveyed by a former lawmaker and ex-Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, after he represented the candidate at an engagement with members of the Arewa community in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area.
Oyintiloye said the plan is aimed at strengthening the link between government and grassroots communities, ensuring public policies reflect citizens’ real needs.
He added that all groups would be actively involved in both policy formulation and implementation to drive development in the state.
Oyebamiji also promised continued engagement with farmers, traders, artisans, and non-indigene communities as key stakeholders in governance.
Responding, leaders of the Arewa community commended past inclusion efforts and pledged support for the APC candidate ahead of the election.

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.
One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.
Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.
Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.
In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.
He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.
According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.
Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.

The dispute involves three individuals — Tony Alile, Kennedy Odion, and Deacon Nosa Ehima — all laying claim to the position of state chairman.
Alile, who emerged from the party’s state congress, said efforts have been intensified to activate internal conflict resolution mechanisms to settle grievances and promote unity ahead of future elections.
Speaking at a political gathering in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area, he said the move was necessary to strengthen cohesion within the party amid its rising profile.
“We are aware of concerns arising from my emergence as chairman, but I assure members that the party has activated its internal conflict resolution framework to address all issues amicably,” he said.
He added that the party remains focused on unity, inclusiveness, and building a strong platform capable of winning elections and delivering good governance.
Alile also noted that the growing influx of members reflects public dissatisfaction with existing political structures, insisting that ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative.
Other speakers at the event described recent defections into the party as evidence of shifting political sentiments, saying the ADC is gaining support due to growing calls for better governance and development.
