A statement from the UK Prime Minister’s office detailed their discussion, emphasizing their focus on enhancing the UK-Nigeria partnership, particularly in trade and security.

The statement read: “The President congratulated the Prime Minister on his recent election victory, while the Prime Minister praised the President as Nigeria celebrates twenty-five years of unbroken democracy.

“The Prime Minister highlighted the vital relationship between the UK and Nigeria, founded on cooperation in trade and security as Commonwealth partners, and the enduring ties between our peoples.

“The leaders viewed this moment as an opportunity to reset and strengthen their relationship, aiming to drive economic growth and prosperity through the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership.”

Starmer’s rise to Prime Minister followed the Labour Party’s victory in securing 326 parliamentary seats, ending the Conservative Party’s 14-year tenure at Number 10.

Tinubu congratulated Starmer on his win and expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating to build a safer and more prosperous future for both nations.
