20 Killed In Eastern DR Congo As Militants Attack VillagA brutal assault in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has left approximately 20 people dead. Reports received by AFP on Thursday indicate that the attack was carried out by militants linked to the Islamic State group.

Local residents have identified the attackers as members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militant group operating in the Beni territory of North Kivu province. The victims, who were working in their fields, were targeted in a village about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Oicha, the capital of Beni territory.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oicha Mayor Nicolas Kikuku confirmed that 20 people have been reported dead, noting, “The attackers repeatedly target impoverished farmers.” The assailants used both guns and knives during the attack. While the exact date of the incident remains unclear, 19 of the bodies were reported to have been taken to the morgue the previous night.

Darius Syaira, a civil society representative for Beni, mentioned that additional bodies were discovered in the same vicinity, although a full count has yet to be completed. Syaira has called for increased military intervention in the area west of Oicha, urging a more forceful response against the ADF, who have long posed a threat.

The ADF, originally composed of Ugandan Muslim rebels, has been active in eastern DR Congo for over three decades, causing significant civilian casualties. Despite joint efforts by Congolese and Ugandan forces since late 2021 to combat ADF violence in North Kivu and neighboring Ituri province, attacks on civilians persist.

In 2019, the ADF pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, establishing itself as its Central African affiliate. The group has been responsible for numerous attacks against Congolese civilians and has also targeted Uganda.

  • The event took an unexpected turn when a junior secondary school student stood up and directly challenged him, asking why he failed to keep his promises.

  • The question immediately shifted the tone of the meeting, causing the audience to fall silent and focus intently on the issue.
