Governor Obaseki Faces Impeachment Calls After ‘Nation Burning’ Allegations – APCThe leadership of Edo State’s APC has urged the State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of threatening to incite national arson.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the Acting Chairman of the party in the state, issued this call in a statement to the press in Benin City on Monday, referencing a viral video in which the governor allegedly vowed to burn down the country if the killers of Inspector Akor Onuh, slain in last Thursday’s Benin Airport attack, are not apprehended by the police.

Tenebe urged legislators to swiftly denounce Obaseki’s inflammatory remarks and initiate his overdue impeachment process to preempt what he described as the governor’s dangerous intentions.

He criticized what he perceived as Obaseki’s pattern of resorting to violence to advance his political agenda, accusing him of empowering state security forces like the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) and Public Work Volunteers (PUWOV) to suppress dissent and perpetrate violence.

Tenebe emphasized the urgency of curbing what he termed Obaseki’s descent into lawlessness, warning of dire consequences for Edo State and the nation if unchecked.

He further alleged that recent violent incidents, notably the tragic events of July 18, 2024, highlight the governor’s alleged complicity in state-sponsored extrajudicial killings, which he claimed are disguised as inter-cult clashes.

According to Tenebe, it is imperative to intervene decisively before Obaseki’s threats escalate into widespread chaos and disorder.

When the appointment was first announced, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted Aina’s deep background in digital infrastructure, public-sector reforms, and national examination systems, noting his historic milestone as one of Nigeria’s youngest computer engineering professors.

In his inaugural address, Aina acknowledged the foundation laid by his predecessor—who is widely credited with modernizing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)—and vowed to expand on those achievements.
