The traffic index developed by Numbeo evaluates various factors such as commute time, dissatisfaction with traffic, CO2 emissions, and overall system inefficiencies. This comprehensive assessment underscores the critical nature of traffic congestion in these cities.
Lagos frequently appears among the world’s most congested cities. With a high Traffic Index of 354.5, the average commuter in Lagos spends approximately 68.8 minutes in traffic daily. Factors contributing to these traffic woes include a high population, poor road conditions, and frequent potholes. Additionally, the public transport system’s overcrowding and inefficiency force many residents to rely on private vehicles.
Nairobi, Kenya, holds the second position in terms of severe traffic congestion. The city’s Traffic Index is 249.0, with an average commute time of 52.7 minutes. Nairobi’s role as an economic and administrative hub significantly exacerbates its traffic problems.
Cairo, Egypt, also faces notorious traffic congestion. The city has a Traffic Index of 242.4, and commuters spend an average of 49.9 minutes in traffic. Cairo’s ancient infrastructure struggles to handle modern traffic volumes, and its status as one of Africa’s most densely populated cities adds to the congestion challenges.
In South Africa, Pretoria, one of the country’s three capital cities, deals with significant traffic issues. With a Traffic Index of 228.1 and an average commute time of 45.0 minutes, congestion is a major concern for both residents and authorities. Cape Town, another prominent South African city, is not immune to traffic woes. The city’s Traffic Index stands at 209.3, with commuters spending an average of 42.5 minutes in traffic daily.

Okolie, 33, was set to face the 2016 Olympic gold medallist on Saturday, April 25. However, promoter Queensberry confirmed on Monday night that it had been informed by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association that Okolie had recorded an adverse finding from a test carried out ahead of the event.
Following the development, the entire fight card has now been cancelled, with Queensberry stating that the decision was made due to circumstances beyond their control.

News reports that Davido disclosed this in a post shared on his handle on Tuesday.
Expressing confidence ahead of the election, the singer said he is optimistic about Governor Adeleke’s victory and looks forward to a smooth campaign process.
In his post, he wrote that he had been appointed by the Osun State governor and flag bearer of the Accord Party as Head of Youth Mobilisation for the campaign council, adding that the team is focused on securing a successful re-election bid.
Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to allegations made by Governor Adeleke that officials of the party in local government councils diverted funds meant for council operations.
Naija News reports that Adeleke made the claims during a stakeholders’ meeting, where he said his administration had been forced to take over the payment of salaries for local government workers, teachers, health workers, and pensioners for over a year.
He alleged that the situation had slowed down government projects and accused APC-aligned council officials of mismanaging funds meant for local government staff.
However, the APC dismissed the allegations in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accusing the governor of attempting to influence local government officials and using them for political purposes.

The Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, made the proposal on Tuesday during a visit to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
Al-Balawi praised both Minister Wike and President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the ongoing development of what he described as a “beautiful green city,” adding that Saudi Arabia is keen to deepen cooperation and share experiences in sustainable urban development.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the FCT and Riyadh, as well as other major cities in Saudi Arabia, to encourage knowledge exchange and closer collaboration.
In response, Wike acknowledged the strong diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, noting that the FCT is ready to take advantage of the partnership for mutual benefit.
He expressed optimism about future collaboration, stating that the FCT is open to official visits and engagements with Riyadh and other Saudi cities to explore areas of shared interest.
Wike further described Saudi Arabia as an important country in the Gulf region with a rich history and strong ties to Nigeria, adding that both sides can learn from each other in urban development and governance.
He commended the ambassador for his remarks on the transformation taking place in the FCT, attributing the progress to the political will of President Tinubu.
According to him, the current administration is committed to turning the capital city into a modern, globally competitive metropolis, even though ongoing efforts are still underway.
