NDLEA Smashes Massive Meth Ring: Drug Lord Nabbed In Luxury Imo Mansion! The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully dismantled a significant drug cartel involved in the production and distribution of methamphetamine, also known as ‘mkpuru mmiri’. This breakthrough came with the arrest of 42-year-old Joachin Chikaodi Mbonu, the cartel leader, and his accomplice, in his luxurious mansion located in Umuomi village, Uzogba-Ezenomi autonomous community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made the announcement on Tuesday. The cartel, which operated in both Imo and Rivers states, became a prime target following intelligence reports linking it to the distribution of large quantities of methamphetamine across the South East, South South, and other regions of Nigeria.

On Friday, a special operations unit of the NDLEA traced Mbonu to his village mansion where he was apprehended alongside cartel member Kenneth Chibuike Ofoegbu, 34. The raid yielded a significant cache of illegal drugs and weapons, including 419.99 grams of methamphetamine, 750 grams of iodine (a meth precursor), 500 grams of sodium bicarbonate (another meth precursor), two electronic weighing scales, a pump-action gun, and cartridges.

The operation extended to another hideout of Mbonu at 11 Redemption Avenue, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where additional items were seized: 750 grams of processed sodium bicarbonate, 170 grams of plain sodium bicarbonate, and 75 grams of meth. Further investigation at the residence of an associate, Odoemenam Pedro Chinedu (who is currently on the run), in Njaba LGA, Imo State, led to the recovery of another pump-action gun with 25 cartridges and other items.

With Mbonu now in custody, two of his Imo State mansions have been flagged for potential forfeiture to the federal government. Mbonu, who had fled South Africa after facing drug-related investigations, had been using his knowledge of meth production to set up secret laboratories in Nigeria’s remote villages.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the operation, emphasizing that the successful crackdown sends a clear message to other drug cartels: no part of Nigeria is a safe haven for their activities.

TRAGEDY COMPOUNDED: 15 Dead In Benue, But Alia And PDP Prefer Fighting Each Other Than Finding Answers!.

Following the tragic murder of 15 residents in the Efeyi Ugboju community of Otukpo Local Government Area on Tuesday, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in a bitter exchange of accusations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In separate releases on Wednesday, the opposition party and its 2027 gubernatorial hopeful, Michael Aondoakaa, slammed Governor Alia, alleging a lack of effective leadership and an inability to safeguard citizens. Conversely, the governor hit back, claiming that the opposition is cynically capitalizing on a security disaster for political mileage.

Speaking through its Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, the PDP condemned the administration’s sluggish reaction to ongoing violence. The party asserted that true leadership requires decisive action and empathy rather than empty words—qualities they claim are missing under the current administration.

Aondoakaa further charged that the state government is prioritizing the suppression of dissent over tackling the root causes of insecurity. He lamented that communities remain vulnerable to constant invasions and farmer displacements, yet officials treat public criticism as a graver threat than the attackers themselves, noting that the bloodshed persists despite government denials.

In his defense, Governor Alia, via his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, argued that the crisis demands collective compassion and unity instead of partisan assaults. The governor emphasized that his administration remains deeply committed to tackling insecurity by providing security agencies with robust logistics, intelligence support, personnel motivation, and collaboration with local vigilante networks to restore lasting peace.
