Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Commander-General of the Kano Hisbah Board, confirmed Gama’s arrest during a press briefing in Kano. Daurawa emphasized that the state government has outlawed any groups or associations promoting LGBTQ activities, and the Hisbah Board has been actively targeting such groups disguised as empowerment organizations.

Daurawa reiterated Kano’s strict adherence to Sharia and Nigerian laws prohibiting same-sex marriage and associations. He revealed that Gama’s video, which went viral on social media, showed support for a group suspected of promoting LGBTQ rights in the state.

In his defense, Gama claimed that he had been invited via WhatsApp to a workshop organized by the Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment and Equality (WISE). He stated that he had mentioned the LGBTQ acronym during an interview without fully understanding its implications. Gama denied any affiliation with LGBTQ advocacy groups and expressed his intention to avoid future association with WISE.

The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013 criminalizes same-sex marriage and related activities in Nigeria.

Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, announced that the state governor has ordered a crackdown on all LGBTQ-promoting groups. Dantiye condemned the activities of WISE as a breach of Kano’s moral and Sharia standards, asserting that the state government will not tolerate any promotion of LGBTQ activities.

“The governor has made it clear that there is no place for LGBTQ activities in Kano. Our religious and cultural values reject such immorality,” Dantiye said. He added that the Hisbah Board has been instructed to investigate and take legal action against these groups.

The commissioner also noted that ongoing consultations with religious leaders aim to address and prevent LGBTQ-related activities in the state.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.

Published

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
