Sources reveal that Femi had been battling severe hardships and feelings of injustice before making the fatal leap around 10:30 AM.
Ibrahim Adekunle, spokesperson for the Osun State Fire Service, reported that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene following the emergency call. However, the search has been hampered by the river’s overflowing conditions and strong currents.
“We acted quickly,” Adekunle said. “Despite our efforts, the strong currents have made it challenging to recover the body. Our search continues.”
Kehinde Adeleke, spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun, confirmed Femi’s identity and provided further details. Adeleke noted that Femi had previously attempted suicide but was stopped by bystanders who noticed his distress.
On July 6, 2024, at around 10:30 AM, Femi, the only child of his parents from Ilesha, jumped into the river after expressing deep frustration. Witnesses reported that he had been assaulted at a fast-food outlet in the Ogo-Oluwa area, which intensified his decision to take his own life.
Adeleke added that Femi had first tried to jump from the bridge but was initially deterred. He later returned, resigned to his fate, and leapt from the Gbodofon Bridge.
By Saturday evening, Femi’s body had not been recovered, and search efforts are still underway. An anonymous witness, a vulcanizer, described seeing Femi walk to the middle of the bridge before jumping, leaving onlookers stunned and fearful.

Furthermore, the ambassador-designate critiqued the rigid application of the World Bank’s global poverty threshold—specifically the standard benchmark of living on less than $2 a day—arguing that international metrics fail to accurately reflect ground-level economic conditions in Nigeria unless adjusted for local purchasing power and actual domestic expenditures.
