Injustice Exposed: Oshiomhole Highlights FG’s Disregard For 80,000 InmatesFormer Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has criticized the Nigerian government for prioritizing the welfare of dogs over that of more than 80,000 prisoners in correctional centres. Speaking at a public lecture titled “Nigeria Yesterday, Today, and a Prosperous Future,” Oshiomhole argued that correctional facilities are meant to rehabilitate, not harm, inmates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oshiomhole expressed concern that 50 percent of the prisoners are awaiting trial, emphasizing that the law presumes individuals innocent until proven guilty. He stated, “We even take care of dogs better than Nigerian prisoners. The bad news is that out of the 80,000 prisoners, 50% are awaiting trials. In our laws, you are presumed innocent until found guilty. Oppression is the name of the game. A person will tell you that I will teach you a lesson, and with the connection of the DPO, he can teach you more lessons than you can ever imagine.”

He also criticized the negative labeling of Nigeria and its currency by foreign countries, urging Nigeria to define its own path. “In Nigeria, our people will go to the World Bank, and they will tell us who we are. We are supposed to define who we are, not foreigners. And until we go back to this home-grown policy and damn the consequences of the world, because they are going to fight us, we will have problems. For us to secure the future, we must interrogate the immediate past,” he added.

Following the tragic murder of 15 residents in the Efeyi Ugboju community of Otukpo Local Government Area on Tuesday, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in a bitter exchange of accusations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In separate releases on Wednesday, the opposition party and its 2027 gubernatorial hopeful, Michael Aondoakaa, slammed Governor Alia, alleging a lack of effective leadership and an inability to safeguard citizens. Conversely, the governor hit back, claiming that the opposition is cynically capitalizing on a security disaster for political mileage.

Speaking through its Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, the PDP condemned the administration’s sluggish reaction to ongoing violence. The party asserted that true leadership requires decisive action and empathy rather than empty words—qualities they claim are missing under the current administration.

Aondoakaa further charged that the state government is prioritizing the suppression of dissent over tackling the root causes of insecurity. He lamented that communities remain vulnerable to constant invasions and farmer displacements, yet officials treat public criticism as a graver threat than the attackers themselves, noting that the bloodshed persists despite government denials.

In his defense, Governor Alia, via his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, argued that the crisis demands collective compassion and unity instead of partisan assaults. The governor emphasized that his administration remains deeply committed to tackling insecurity by providing security agencies with robust logistics, intelligence support, personnel motivation, and collaboration with local vigilante networks to restore lasting peace.
