Kenya President Ruto Declines To Assent Finance Bill 2024

Kenyan President William Ruto has refused to sign the Finance Bill, 2024, into law, returning it to Parliament with proposed amendments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Before Parliament adjourned for recess on Wednesday, President Ruto sent the bill back, highlighting several areas that require changes. MPs will now have to consider these proposed amendments.

Parliament has two options: amend the bill to accommodate the president’s reservations or pass it a second time without changes. If the MPs fully accommodate the president’s amendments, the Speaker will resend the bill to President Ruto for assent.

However, if the House decides to pass the bill a second time with or without partial amendments, it will require a two-thirds majority vote.

With Parliament set to go on recess from Thursday until July 23, the Speaker may need to recall the MPs if the President returns the bill for further review.

Initially, the bill included several controversial tax proposals, such as a 16 percent VAT on bread, excise duty on vegetable oil, VAT on sugar transportation, a 2.5 percent motor vehicle tax, and an eco-levy on locally manufactured products. These proposals have since been removed.

The bill successfully passed the committee of the whole house after these amendments. This format allows for a detailed examination of each clause, ensuring thorough consideration before the bill progresses to the next legislative stages.

The recording started gaining traction on Thursday, September 10, 2026, prompting panic among fans regarding his well-being.

Clarifying the situation, Olaiya stated that the video was merely a behind-the-scenes snippet from a film production spearheaded by fellow filmmaker Mr. Latin. In the project, he played the role of an ailing father, which viewers unfortunately misinterpreted as a genuine medical emergency.

While expressing gratitude to individuals who checked in on him, the veteran actor voiced deep disappointment over critics who rejoiced and anticipated his demise over the fake news.

Via an official statement on his Instagram page, Olaiya reassured his supporters and colleagues of his stable health status:

“I have seen some stupid set of people wishing me to die. Is it their father that will fall sick and die? And for those that are genuinely concerned, please relax. There’s no problem. I was only acting my role, as you all know, I am a versatile actor.

“It was an Oga Latin movie we were shooting, and one of the scenes required me to play a sick father. It went viral and has brought lots of concern to the general public, though some understood that I was only acting while some felt I was sick and have been checking up on me. And we have some too that were happy that finally their wish had come to pass on me.

“For as many wishing me evil, evil will be their portion. I am okay and there’s nothing wrong with me.”

Nollywood star Sharon Ooja recently discussed the heavy emotional and psychological toll of portraying characters with bipolar disorder on screen.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During an Arise TV interview, the 35-year-old actress shared that stepping into these complex roles leaves her mentally drained as she constantly shifts between intense emotional extremes. She noted that the experience has deepened her compassion for individuals genuinely navigating mental health conditions.

Ooja pointed out the difficulty of rapidly alternating between disparate emotions like joy, sorrow, and rage while keeping up with the demands of a performance. She recounted instances on set where the director had to intervene because she naturally slipped back into her normal demeanor instead of holding the character’s emotional state.

Reflecting on the experience, she remarked: “I think that because it was more mentally draining for me; when you’re a normal person playing a bipolar role, it’s a lot of work. This gave me so much empathy for people actually dealing with mental health issues because it was draining. My director would sometimes have to call me because he’s like, you’re not staying on tempo, you’re going back to normal, you can’t be normal. So, it was so draining having to be crying, laughing, angry so many emotions in one.”

2027 Shocker: Ibadan Mogajis Disown Viral Video Endorsing Makinde And Adekanmbi

Published

A collective of traditional leaders and Mogajis in Ibadan has rejected claims that they backed Governor Seyi Makinde for the 2027 presidency alongside APM governorship contender Bimbo Adekanmbi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a Saturday release, the leaders stressed that they remain neutral as fathers to all political actors, distancing themselves from any candidate for the upcoming 2027 polls.

The joint statement was issued by Ibadan Mogajis President, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, alongside the Coordinator of the Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade.

This response came on the heels of a widely circulated social media video alleging that the Ibadan Mogajis threw their weight behind Makinde’s presidential ambition and Adekanmbi’s gubernatorial run in Oyo State.

Refuting these assertions, the statement emphasized alignment with the apolitical stance of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja.

The position was solidified during a gathering of over 200 Ibadan Mogajis on Saturday at the historic old Olubadan Palace in Ojaba, where they agreed that the revered office of the Mogaji transcends partisan politics.

“At the meeting we held today at the Ojaba, where over 200 Mogajis in Ibadanland were in attendance and led by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, we unanimously agreed that as Mogajis, we are the fathers of all. Those that endorsed Governor Makinde and Adekanmbi are doing it on their own because we don’t have any business with those behind the endorsement as far as we are concerned,” they noted.

They further underscored their loyalty to the throne, stating, “We abide by the position of Olubadan. He is our father, and he owns the beads on our hands and around our necks, so wherever Olubadan goes is where we also go. Whatever is the position of Olubadan is also our position because we are his subjects.”

“Olubadan is our father; we can not work against his interest or his position. Mogajis are fathers of all politicians, and we must maintain our integrity and preserve the beauty of our Olubadan traditional institution,” they concluded.
