The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed the successful raid of a shrine in the Igor community, Benin City, Edo State, previously guarded by a snake, which concealed illicit drugs.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, operatives uncovered a large concealed hole in a shrine wall adorned with wallpapers and fetish items, used for drug storage.

During the operation on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, after neutralizing the snake guard, NDLEA seized significant quantities of methamphetamine, Loud, Colorado, and Arizona, potent cannabis strains weighing a total of 8.743 kilograms.

The raid resulted in the apprehension of two suspects, Sonia Chinonso Ezumezu and Risikatu Tijani, involved in the shrine’s operations.

Separately, NDLEA operatives arrested Obi Ferguson, 45, and Ernest Abanum, 46, on Saturday, June 22, during a raid on the Usen forest in Ovia South West LGA, Edo State, recovering 209 kilograms of cannabis and a motorcycle.
