Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, has reiterated that Nigeria’s unity will endure despite numerous challenges, emphasizing that the nation is bound “through the divine mandate of God.”

Afuye urged parents not to dissuade their children from participating in inter-ethnic marriages, encouraging citizens to foster unity and avoid actions that exacerbate existing divisions, acrimony, and hatred.

The Deputy Governor made these remarks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday during the wedding of Blessing Eyakenyi, daughter of the Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and Ekiti-born Olumuyiwa Adewumi.

In a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, Afuye commended the couple for transcending ethnic differences to unite as a family.

Afuye argued that Nigeria’s numerous inter-ethnic marriages and strong political relationships render the country inseparable. She stated that the marriage between Blessing and Olumuyiwa exemplifies how ethno-religious differences are not barriers to Nigerians’ relationships, cordiality, and fraternities.

“I am honored to attend this marriage ceremony between our daughter, Miss Blessing Eyakenyi, and our son, Olumuyiwa Adewumi, now united as Mr. and Mrs. Adewumi,” Afuye said. “This marriage attests to our unity as Nigerians. Nothing can divide us because we are a nation joined by God’s divine mandate.

“The fact that we intermarry and share common family values makes Nigerians inseparable, regardless of cultural and ethno-religious differences.”
