The appointment was confirmed during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Nwoye was unanimously selected by the Senate minority caucus to fill the position following the defection of his predecessor, Senator Osita Ngwu, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the same day.

In a letter read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Ngwu explained that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by his intention to align with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu. He also described the APC as the country’s most stable political platform.

Senator Nwoye was first elected to the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party before later defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in late 2025.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will eventually deliver a favourable judgment in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.

This position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following the latest ruling by the apex court.

It will be recalled that the Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the PDP over its nullified convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025. A five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba said the date for judgment would be communicated to the parties involved.

Reacting, Ememobong urged party members to remain calm and hopeful as they await the court’s final decision.

The relationship coach had earlier taken a break from social media after facing intense criticism, with many Nigerians questioning the authenticity of her claims and calling for accountability. She later returned in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she appealed for understanding from the public.

In her statement, she admitted that the situation had led to confusion and embarrassment, expressing regret over how events unfolded. However, she insisted that her health condition was genuine and urged Nigerians to be patient as she prepares to provide evidence.

She further stated that she would soon release her medical scan results and biopsy reports to support her claims, adding that she intends to document her health journey moving forward, similar to her previous sharing of cosmetic surgery experiences.

Addressing the donations she received during the period, Blessing CEO said anyone who wants a refund should contact her with proof of payment, including receipts and account details, via direct messages or WhatsApp.

She apologized to her supporters and Nigerians, saying she regretted the controversy and promised greater transparency going forward, while maintaining that she did not lie about her health condition.
