Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, has praised Lanre Olagoke, the Nigerian-British artist recently bestowed with the Order of the British Empire (MBE), as a visionary professional.

The Minister, attending a post-award gathering in honor of Olagoke alongside Nigerians in the UK, also assured the artist of the Federal Government’s support.

Olagoke received the MBE from King Charles III at Windsor Castle, with Prince William representing the British monarchy. At the celebration following the award, Olagoke pledged to formally present his MBE to Nigeria through the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The British government recognized Olagoke for his Art-Alive Arts Trust (AAAT), citing his “services to charity and young people.”

During the ceremony at Windsor Castle, Prince William commended Olagoke’s advocacy in art as a long-standing achievement, highlighting the positive impact of his Art-Alive Trust on youths who have demonstrated commitment to their communities.

Following the presentation, Nigerians in the diaspora joined in celebrating Olagoke’s achievement. Minister Hannatu Musawa emphasized, “It is an honor to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Lanre Olagoke, MBE, an extraordinary artist, visionary, and founder of Art-Alive UK. We appreciate his artistry and commend his contributions to art and community, recognized by King Charles.”

Represented at the Nigerian event by Deputy Personal Assistant Amira Ibrahim, Musawa described Olagoke as synonymous with passion, creativity, and a dedication to enriching society through art. She affirmed that Olagoke’s MBE honor underscores his profound impact and esteemed reputation.

Looking ahead, Olagoke plans to expand AAAT’s initiatives to Nigeria in collaboration with the federal government. “Art-Alive has already conducted activities beyond the UK, including in Lagos, empowering disadvantaged youth with creative skills,” Olagoke noted. “With Minister Hanatu Musawa’s support and encouragement, I am motivated to do more in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Bisi Ilaka, former aide to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and acclaimed illustrator and artist Bob Murdock attended the celebration. Musawa anticipates leading the federal government’s creative agency in welcoming Olagoke to Nigeria later this year, recognizing his honor as a tribute to the transformative power of art in society.

Earlier this year, the British government announced over 1,000 recipients for the king’s honors, with Olagoke notably the sole artist on the list. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak praised the recipients for their outstanding achievements and commitment to altruism and empathy.

Founded in 1997, Olagoke’s Art-Alive Arts Trust operates as a UK charity, providing artistic opportunities from primary schools to prisons. AAAT continues to engage participants through diverse art workshops within and beyond the UK.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
