Former President Olusegun Obasanjo met with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Monday. The meeting was disclosed by the First Lady’s Media Aide, Busola Kukoyi, via X.
Posting photos of Obasanjo and Mrs. Tinubu, Kukoyi wrote: “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June.”
This encounter comes just 48 hours after Obasanjo was seen wearing a cap with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia.
DAILY POST had previously reported a video of Obasanjo at an event with African dignitaries, where he wore a cap branded with Tinubu’s insignia.
Despite both hailing from the Southwest geopolitical zone, Obasanjo and Tinubu are known for their differing political affiliations.
In the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi. Before the election, Tinubu had visited Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, seeking an endorsement, but Obasanjo chose to support Obi instead.
Additionally, Obasanjo has been critical of Tinubu’s administration, particularly regarding its ongoing reforms and the coup d’état in Niger Republic.
The PDP faction headed by Kabiru Turaki has instructed its legal team to challenge the recent Federal High Court decision regarding the party’s leadership at the Court of Appeal. The High Court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, had dismissed the suit aimed at forcing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC). The court struck out the case on jurisdictional grounds, ruling that the plaintiffs—led by Board of Trustees Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara—lacked the legal standing to bring the action. Furthermore, the court determined that the issue of party leadership is an internal matter, thereby placing it outside the court’s jurisdiction.
Despite respecting the lower court’s decision, the faction has formally initiated an appeal, viewing the ruling as legally flawed. The faction expressed confidence that higher courts will ultimately rule in its favor, describing the ongoing struggle as a quest for the survival of genuine opposition and multi-party democracy.

The funeral service for Sabainah Opawole, mother-in-law of former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, was briefly interrupted on Friday when supporters of rival governorship hopefuls turned the solemn occasion into a venue for political posturing. A Call for Decorum The chanting began shortly after Adebutu was invited to pay his respects to the deceased, prompting an immediate response from Adeola’s supporters. Disturbed by the display, former Governor Daniel intervened to address the congregation, reminding those in attendance that the event was a funeral, not a political rally. He urged the supporters to respect the sanctity of the church and refrain from conduct that would distract the mourners.
Reassurance of Peace Despite the disruption, which Daniel noted had unsettled the officiating pastors, the former governor remained optimistic about the state’s political climate. He assured the clergy that political rivalry in Ogun State is managed with maturity and is devoid of violence.
To further demonstrate that there was no personal animosity between the rivals, Daniel invited Governor Dapo Abiodun to lead both Adebutu and Adeola to the dance floor, signaling that they remain part of a single political family despite their party differences. Daniel also noted that, while the identity of the next governor remains unknown, the competition would proceed without physical conflict.
Honoring the Matriarch The service was attended by numerous dignitaries, including representatives for former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, as well as the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi.
Tributes were paid to the late Sabainah Opawole, who was celebrated as an accomplished entrepreneur, a devout Christian, and a woman of exceptional grace and faith. Former President Obasanjo praised her legacy of love and unity, while Governor Abiodun highlighted her disciplined leadership, qualities he noted were clearly reflected in her children. The service concluded with a sermon by Rev. John Eyinnaya, who urged the congregation to embrace the sovereignty of God in all aspects of life.
The family of Mary Habila, a 26-year-old nurse who passed away on June 27, has formally requested that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, intervene to expedite the release of her body for burial. Delayed Release and Ongoing Frustrations Habila was discovered deceased at a staff chalet located within the country home of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in Uburu, Ebonyi State. Although the family asserts they have complied with all police requirements for the release of the remains, nearly three weeks have passed without success. Yusuf expressed the family’s deep frustration, noting that the continued retention of the body is causing them significant emotional distress and stalling funeral plans. Consequently, the family has filed a petition against the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, seeking the IGP’s direct intervention to resolve the matter.
Professional Identity and Character Defense In addition to seeking the release of the remains, the family’s lawyer sought to correct what he termed “misinformation” regarding Habila’s career. Yusuf clarified that Habila was a professional nurse—not a physiotherapist—who had served as a civil servant in the Minister of Works’ office for three years following a previous tenure at the David Umahi University of Health Sciences. Her colleague, Anita Baaki, corroborated this, noting that she herself was the team’s physiotherapist, while Habila functioned as their nurse.
Furthermore, the legal counsel vehemently rejected rumors disparaging Habila’s character, specifically labeling allegations that she was a “runs girl” as entirely false. He suggested that these claims are part of an attempt to politicize her tragic death.
Resistance to Autopsy A central point of contention remains the post-mortem examination. While the Ebonyi State Police Command maintains that an autopsy is vital for their investigation, the family has remained steadfast in their opposition, citing personal, cultural, and traditional objections.
A Father’s Plea During the briefing, Mary’s father, Tanko Habila, made an emotional appeal to the authorities. Stating that the family has no intention of accusing anyone of wrongdoing and that they had previously maintained a positive relationship with her place of work, he pleaded simply for the return of his daughter’s body. “I need the corpse of my daughter to take her for burial,” he said.
