“President Bola Tinubu extends his warm congratulations to His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, on his re-election. The President also congratulates the people of South Africa on the peaceful and successful conduct of the general election,” the statement read.

President Tinubu also called for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Nigeria and South Africa. “While wishing President Ramaphosa a successful term in office, President Tinubu calls for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Nigeria and South Africa as strategic partners in Africa for the overall advancement of the continent,” the statement continued.

Cyril Ramaphosa was re-elected for a second term following the May 29 general election, as reported by Naija News. Despite facing challenges, the African National Congress (ANC) managed to form a unique coalition government, securing Ramaphosa’s return to office.

In Cape Town, lawmakers showed strong support by overwhelmingly voting for Ramaphosa’s continuation as president for the next five years. “I accordingly declare honourable M.C. Ramaphosa duly elected President,” announced Chief Justice Raymond Zondo after the votes were counted.

The recent election marked a significant milestone in South Africa’s history, ending the ANC’s three-decade-long dominance. The ANC, which was pivotal in ending apartheid under the leadership of Nelson Mandela, secured only 40 percent of the vote, losing its absolute majority in parliament. Consequently, the ANC formed a government of national unity through a coalition with a majority of the 18 parties that won representation in the National Assembly, including the Democratic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party, and several smaller groups.

Cyril Ramaphosa, who was re-elected by fellow MPs with 283 votes in a secret ballot, will be sworn in as the country’s leader next week in Pretoria and will subsequently announce his new cabinet. In his victory speech, Ramaphosa praised the new coalition, emphasizing that voters expected leaders to “act and to work together for the good of everyone in our country.”

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
