Governor Alia signed the bills on Tuesday at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.
He stated that these laws aim to ensure the safety of the people of Benue and protect their rights as citizens.
Among the new laws are: A Law to Make Provisions for Benue State Drug and Health Commodities Management Agency and Other Matters Connected Therewith 2024; and A Law to Prohibit Harassment, Extortion of Money from Land Developers (Marching Ground), Violent and Fraudulent Conducts in Relation to Landed Properties and for Purposes Connected Therewith 2024.
After signing the bills, Governor Alia urged the state’s residents to set aside partisanship in matters of law and order.
He emphasized that the new laws are not related to any political party and aim to make the people understand the importance of protecting their home and passing on values of genuineness, legitimacy, sincerity, and truth to future generations.
Governor Alia also confirmed that the existing Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law remains unchanged.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Benue State and warned against intra- and inter-state conflicts.
Alia called on traditional rulers to work towards achieving permanent peace in their communities.
Presenting the bills to the Governor, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, stated that the bills reflect the 10th Benue Assembly’s dedication to enacting laws that positively impact the people.
The Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr. Fidelis Bemsen Mnyim, also confirmed that no part of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law was repealed.

According to a statement released on Friday by Deputy Corps Commander in charge of Operations Kyrian Okolo, Agbakoba passed away on Thursday, July 30, while undergoing treatment at the Niger Foundation Hospital in Enugu. His remains have since been moved to the Eastern Medical Centre in Enugu.
While the statement did not disclose the specific cause or details surrounding his death, the FRSC paid tribute to his impactful tenure. Agbakoba was widely recognized for fostering strong collaborations among local security and emergency response agencies, as well as advancing vital road safety campaigns and partnerships throughout Enugu State.

Street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, was disqualified after exiting the ring before the first round concluded against actor Charles Okocha. The bout, billed as “Unfinished Business,” briefly descended into chaos following a wrestling exchange that required security intervention. Portable left the ring and, despite attempting a later return, officials ruled him out, awarding the win to Okocha. Prior to the fight, Portable had expressed his state of mind, stating, “I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family.”
Before the controversial main event, Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo delivered one of the night’s premier performances by stopping Said Mohamed Hassan in the second round. A major upset occurred when Suleiman Jafaru scored a stunning knockout against former British super-welterweight champion Samuel Antwi. The victory earned Jafaru an immediate promotional deal with Balmoral Promotions and an electric car from an event sponsor.
Elsewhere on the card, Michael Babalola maintained his unblemished professional record with a unanimous decision win against Abidemi Rabiu, while Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas defeated Ghana’s Eric “Kojo” Quarm via unanimous decision in their welterweight bout.
In the evening’s other celebrity matchup, music artists Mr Real and Idowest battled to a five-round draw. Idowest contested the decision, arguing he did enough to win, prompting organizers to announce a rematch scheduled for October 1.
