Just In: CBN Denies Licence Revocation For Fidelity, Polaris, Wema, Unity BanksThe Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially denied rumours about plans to revoke the operating licences of Fidelity Bank, Polaris Bank, Wema Bank, and Unity Bank. These speculations have caused public concern about the stability of these banks, especially following the recent licence revocation of Heritage Bank Plc.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 10, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, the acting director of the Corporate Communications Department at CBN, assured the public of the robustness of the Nigerian banking sector and the security of depositors’ funds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

“The Nigerian banking industry remains resilient. Key financial soundness indicators remain within current regulatory thresholds,” she explained.

This clarification came in response to widespread misinterpretation of a January 10, 2024 circular regarding the dissolution of the Boards of Union, Keystone, and Polaris Banks. Misunderstandings led to the belief that the circular was a new directive issued on June 10, 2024, suggesting potential actions against more banks.

Mrs. Sidi Ali stressed that the January circular focused solely on specific administrative changes and should not be seen as a precursor to additional licence revocations.

“This circular is now being misrepresented as a new directive issued on June 10, 2024. It is essential to correct this misinformation; the circular in question is an old notification and not a recent development,” she stated.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
