EEDC Threatens Disconnection Of Government Facilities And Institutions In South-East Over Unpaid Bills

In a notice of disconnection dated Friday, EEDC cautioned these entities to settle their overdue bills by June 10, 2024, or face disconnection of their electricity supply.
Highlighting the necessity of this action, EEDC emphasized the substantial unpaid bills and accrued arrears, which have consistently resulted in a significant revenue deficit for the company. This deficit, in turn, hampers the company’s ability to fulfill its power purchase obligations and maintain operational efficiency.
The notice underscores the importance of prompt payment for electricity consumed to ensure the continued provision of services and enhance service quality.
Among the indebted customers listed in the notice are various state governments, academic institutions like the University of Nigeria and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, as well as prominent industries and organizations such as Innoson Technical & Industries and Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd.
Additionally, government agencies including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, and Nigerian Navy are included in the list, alongside healthcare facilities, manufacturing companies, and other commercial entities.
EEDC’s warning serves as a reminder of the critical need for timely settlement of bills to sustain reliable electricity supply and support the company’s operations. Failure to comply with this directive may result in the disconnection of electricity services to these entities.
