SP Umma Ayuba, the Zonal Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Lagos. Ayuba explained that the arrests were based on intelligence gathered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi.

Acting on this intelligence, a team of detectives from the Zonal Strike Force in Lagos trailed and apprehended one of the suspects. Upon searching the suspect, the officers found two newly manufactured locally made pistols in his handbag. The suspect then led the detectives to his house in Atan township, where they recovered two additional pistols of a similar type.

Following the first suspect’s confession, a second suspect was arrested with a Pump Action Gun, which he claimed to have bought from an absconding friend. This suspect also admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
