In a statement released on Tuesday, Mohammad Lawal-Falala, the Commandant of the Corps in Kano State, announced that the suspects were apprehended by the Corps’ anti-vandalism unit during their midnight patrols.

Adnan Umar (26) and Musa Shuayb (24) were caught in the act of vandalizing streetlight armoured cables on IBB Way, Fagge/Kofar Wambai new market, while attempting to steal three rolls of copper wire.

In another incident, the Corps arrested three individuals suspected of motorcycle theft, including the receiver of the stolen motorcycle. The suspects, Saminu Magaji (19), Haruna Idris (22), and Ahmed Abubakar (38), are from Gwammaja, Dala LGA, Kano State, and are known for breaking into homes to steal motorcycles and personal belongings. Two other suspects remain at large.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion.

The issue of vandalism has become a significant concern across Nigeria. Recently, the Yobe State government took spiritual measures against vandals who destroyed electricity towers, cutting off Borno and Yobe states from the national grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) repaired the 330 KVA towers that collapsed in February, but vandals near Kasaisa village in Gujba LGA destroyed them again, severing the connection once more.

To prevent recurrence, the Special Advisor to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari, led a group of Muslim clerics in prayers and the slaughtering of a bull, seeking divine intervention against the vandals.

Governor Buni had warned that after the repairs, he would lead religious recitations and prayers against those disrupting the electricity supply. The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) noted that the towers were first damaged in December 2023 and again in February 2024, both times repaired by the Yobe State government in collaboration with TCN.

Bolarinwa Abiodun, a convicted fake Nigerian Army general, was reportedly hospitalized following an alleged physical assault by correctional officers at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • According to an insider source, prison warders entered Bolarinwa’s cell while he was asleep, woke him up suddenly, and pushed him to the ground, causing him to fall.

  • Following the alleged altercation, he was rushed to the Military Hospital on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, for medical attention and theatre evaluation.

  • A family source corroborated that relatives were later informed of the incident, claiming that Bolarinwa reported being severely beaten and subjected to physical abuse during a search for a mobile phone.

  • The family source also expressed deep safety concerns, alleging that this incident follows several previous attempts on his life.

Background on Conviction

Bolarinwa has been serving a prison sentence following his initial remand in April 2022 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

  • He was arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja on a 13-count charge encompassing forgery, possession of false documents, and obtaining money by false pretences amounting to ₦266.5 million.

  • The EFCC stated that Bolarinwa deceived Kodef Clearing Resources Limited by posing as a military general and claiming that former President Muhammadu Buhari had shortlisted him for appointment as Chief of Army Staff, extracting large sums to “facilitate” the role.

  • Investigators also recovered forged appointment letters, military identification cards, recommendations bearing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s name, and several firearms from his Alagbado residence.

  • Although he initially pleaded not guilty, Bolarinwa changed his plea to “guilty” during court proceedings on July 7, 2022.

  • Justice Taiwo convicted him on all 13 counts, sentencing him to seven years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, ordering asset forfeitures, and directing him to pay ₦20 million in restitution.
