NNPP Gubernatorial Candidate For Ondo Withdraws From Race, Cites Party Interests

Israel Ayeni, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate for the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, has officially withdrawn from the race. “I, Ayeni, Oluwatosin Israel, a governorship candidate of NNPP for the November 16, 2024 election in Ondo State, hereby voluntarily withdraw my candidacy from the contest. My withdrawal is in the best interest of our great party, NNPP,” Ayeni wrote.

The NNPP State Chairman, Peter Olagookun, confirmed Ayeni’s withdrawal and noted that it was a voluntary decision to support a stronger candidate for the party. Olagookun mentioned that the party planned a replacement primary for Wednesday, aiming to boost their chances in the upcoming election.

In related news, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the voter registration deadline for Edo and Ondo states. Originally set to conclude on June 5, the registration period will now continue until June 9, 2024, allowing more eligible individuals to register.
