Reports indicate that at least five individuals lost their lives in the attack, which occurred in Kimakpa, a village within the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area.

Confirming the tragic incident in a statement provided to the press on Wednesday, Sam Jugo, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), disclosed that the assault took place around midnight on Monday.

Jugo expressed the community’s sorrow, stating, “We woke up this morning to another sad one. In the middle of the night of June 2, 2024, criminal invaders attacked and killed 5 of our residents in cold blood at Kimakpa.”

He identified the victims, including Mrs. Chummy Dauda (57), Chwe Ajuhs (26), Joshua Kusa (45), and Rikwe Doro (43), besides Pastor Dalyop.

Jugo revealed, “Two persons were severely injured and are currently undergoing treatment at home. Troops of Operation Safe Haven were instantly mobilized to avert further genocide. There’s uneasy calm in Kwall District.”

The statement highlighted that this incident followed the recent ambush of Rigwe youths, resulting in the death of Mr. Irmiya Musa Timbi and severe injuries to another, near the Gero mining site.

While urging for restraint and cooperation with security agencies, Jugo emphasized the importance of avoiding vigilantism and allowing due process to take its course.

“We call on the security agencies to do the needful by fishing out the culprits so that those affected will see justice being served as that’s the only way to restore the confidence of our people,” he concluded.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
