Residents were shocked on the early hours of Sunday, June 2, when they stumbled upon the body of the day-old baby wrapped in old clothes, which were seemingly used to transport it to the location.
According to eyewitnesses, the baby, believed to have been abandoned alive by its mother, was heard crying for several hours in the night before the sack containing the infant was discovered in the morning.
Tension arose when a commercial tricycle operator, picking up passengers near the scene, narrowly escaped being attacked for nearly running over the sack, apparently unaware of its contents.
Security personnel intervened to restore calm to the area, while onlookers observed the scene with dismay and disgust.
In a statement issued on Monday, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the baby was abandoned by an unidentified woman suspected to be the mother. The body has been recovered, and the police are collaborating with eyewitnesses for possible arrest of the perpetrator.
CP Nnaghe Itam condemned the act as ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman, emphasizing the need for society to address moral decay. He urged parents and guardians to be vigilant with their children and encouraged anyone with information to contact the police command headquarters.

MILITARY HEAVYWEIGHT SPEAKS: Retired General Throws Weight Behind Makinde’s Demand For UN Intervention In Oriire!
Retired Major General Ishola Williams has publicly supported Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s appeal for an independent probe into the recent abduction and subsequent rescue of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area. Williams, a retired two-star general, argued that Makinde’s request for international scrutiny is justified by historical precedent, noting that current political leaders famously advocated for similar international intervention during the 2014 kidnapping of the Chibok schoolgirls.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Precedent for International Involvement: Williams stated that those who criticized the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for security lapses during the Chibok crisis set a standard that now validates Makinde’s position.
-
Limitations on Formal Invitations: While supportive, Williams clarified that a state governor lacks the constitutional authority to officially invite the United Nations. Instead, he suggested that the governor should engage internationally recognized, independent organizations like Amnesty International, which are known for conducting thorough investigations.
-
Failures in Intelligence and Oversight: The retired general criticized the security lapse that allowed armed men to abduct dozens of individuals without detection. He insisted that local security structures—including the Amotekun Corps, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and community leaders—must be held accountable for failing to identify the threat.
-
The Role of Local Complicity: Williams asserted that such a large-scale operation could not have been executed without local collaborators who were familiar with the terrain. He suggested that community heads should face consequences if such criminal activity occurs within their jurisdictions, as some villages may be profiting from the presence of these groups.
-
Skepticism Toward Official Accounts: Williams questioned the specifics of the rescue operation and called for greater transparency from the authorities so that security experts can analyze the event. He further questioned why the level of intelligence and resources applied to the Oriire rescue is not consistently utilized to combat the ongoing insurgency in Northern Nigeria.

THE BATTLE FOR THE PDP SOUL: Turaki Challenges Leadership Verdict in Legal Showdown!.
The PDP faction headed by Kabiru Turaki has instructed its legal team to challenge the recent Federal High Court decision regarding the party’s leadership at the Court of Appeal. The faction maintains that the High Court’s ruling contradicts existing judgments from both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The High Court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, had dismissed the suit aimed at forcing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC). The court struck out the case on jurisdictional grounds, ruling that the plaintiffs—led by Board of Trustees Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara—lacked the legal standing to bring the action. Furthermore, the court determined that the issue of party leadership is an internal matter, thereby placing it outside the court’s jurisdiction.
Despite respecting the lower court’s decision, the faction has formally initiated an appeal, viewing the ruling as legally flawed. The faction expressed confidence that higher courts will ultimately rule in its favor, describing the ongoing struggle as a quest for the survival of genuine opposition and multi-party democracy.
