The accused, Ahmed Sarki, Nura Usman, Jidda Lawa, Safiya Ibrahim, and Mohammed Family, all residents of Jabi, Abuja, face charges of criminal conspiracy, attempted fraud, criminal breach of trust, and cheating.
Charges and Allegations
The Prosecution Counsel, Faith Sunday, informed the court that Danjuma Godwina of Mabushi lodged a complaint at the Mabushi Police Station. The defendants reportedly conspired to deceive a construction company by pretending to purchase stone-coated tiles. They allegedly executed a fake money transfer to the company’s account following the purported purchase.
Police investigations affirmed the accusations against the defendants. The prosecutor noted that these actions contravened Sections 97 and 95 of the Penal Code.
Court Proceedings
All five defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Presiding Judge Chukwuemeka Nweke granted each defendant bail set at N1 million, requiring one surety of equal sum for each. The case has been adjourned to July 2 for further hearing.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which financial fraud is treated, especially given the impact on businesses and the integrity of financial transactions. The forthcoming hearing will delve deeper into the evidence and testimonies surrounding the case.
