While the Anambra State government has not officially addressed the sit-at-home order, the police command is taking proactive measures to ensure security and prevent any disruptions. An Assistant Commissioner of Police from the Operation Department will lead the squad.

Unofficially, heads of various departments in the state secretariat have cautioned workers against absences from work under the guise of Biafra Day.

To bolster security measures, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has reinforced the Joint Security Force, comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defense, and other agencies, to address any security concerns, particularly related to the enforcement of the sit-at-home order.

The Commissioner directed the special squad to prioritize the safety of students currently sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), scheduled to begin on May 30th, 2024, nationwide.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the squad members are equipped with necessary assets and advanced training to effectively respond to security challenges faced by educational institutions.

Ikenga further stated, “The personnel have been dispatched and tasked to intensify robust patrols around schools and vulnerable institutions in all locations in the state.”

As the exams approach, the PPRO advised candidates to maintain good behavior and report any security-related incidents to the appropriate authorities.

With these proactive measures in place, the Anambra State Police Command aims to ensure the safety of students, protect institutional infrastructure, and maintain peace and order during the upcoming Biafra Day commemoration.
