Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for a robust security presence to preempt any untoward incidents. “Equipped and armed personnel have been deployed to handle any unforeseen circumstances around the identified areas,” Gumel stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the state government’s directive banning all protests will be rigorously enforced, with stern warnings of arrests and prosecutions for violators. Gumel asserted, “Anyone found participating would be arrested and prosecuted.”
Residents have been urged to carry on with their lawful activities without fear, assured of the comprehensive measures taken by the police and state security agencies to ensure their safety. Gumel affirmed that the security apparatus is prepared to deal decisively with any security threats that may arise.
“We are equal to the task. Any person or group of people found fomenting trouble will be decisively dealt with accordingly,” Gumel declared, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and criminality. Individuals caught with weapons will face charges of armed robbery, he warned.
The commissioner of police appealed to residents to collaborate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities, emphasizing that such cooperation is crucial for maintaining peace in the state.
“With a comprehensive security network in place, the police and state security agencies are committed to maintaining the peaceful atmosphere that Kano is known for,” Gumel reassured.
