A Lagos State pilgrim, Mr. Oloshogbo Isiaka Idris, has passed away during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The 68-year-old from Shomolu Local Government Area died after performing Tawaf, the circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah……CONTINUE READING
The Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Taofeek Lawal, issued a statement confirming the death. According to the Board Secretary, Mr. Saheed Onipede, Idris collapsed while eating after the evening prayers (Solat Maghrib). Though the exact cause of death has not been medically confirmed, it is believed that high blood pressure and the physical exertion from the Tawaf could have contributed.
The state government extended condolences to Idris’ family and friends. They prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for Idris and for him to be granted Aljanat Fridaos, acknowledging his intention to complete the Hajj rites. Onipede urged other pilgrims to avoid overexertion before the commencement of the main Hajj rituals.
In accordance with Saudi Arabian regulations, Idris was buried in Makkah. Waheed Ololade Shonibare, a board member, led other state officials and some pilgrims in performing the Janaza (funeral) prayer for Idris at the Kaaba.
Meanwhile, the last batch of Lagos State pilgrims is scheduled to leave Madinah for Makkah on Thursday, after completing their mandatory four-day stay as per the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) guidelines. During their time in Madinah, the pilgrims engaged in various religious activities, including praying in Masjid Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque), visiting the Raodah (a spiritually significant area in the mosque), and visiting the tombs of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions.
The pilgrims also visited significant sites such as Masjid Quba (the first mosque built by the Prophet), Masjid Qiblatain (the mosque with two Qiblas), and Mountain Uhud, where the Prophet’s uncle Hamza and other companions were martyred and buried during a battle with non-believers.
