During an engagement with stakeholders on electricity matters in Ado Ekiti, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, emphasized the detrimental impact of arbitrary and exorbitant electricity bills on consumers and the state’s economy. He stressed the need for DISCOs to provide smart prepaid or postpaid meters to ensure accurate billing based on actual consumption.
Aluko mandated DISCOs to submit comprehensive metering plans and strategies to the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau. He also announced that meter asset provider companies must register with the bureau to ensure compliance with standards and certification processes.
Ekiti State Head of Service, Sunday Komolafe, underscored the importance of sourcing meters from certified companies to guarantee the delivery of reliable products.
Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, highlighted Ekiti’s proactive reforms in the power sector, positioning the state as a pioneer in power sector reform in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Olusegun Ojo, advocated for installment payments for consumers unable to afford upfront costs for prepaid or postpaid meters.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olumide Ajayi, outlined the regulatory role of the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau in enforcing compliance with electricity directives.

In response, the general manager of the Ado Ekiti district of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Mrs. Moyosola Akin-Afuye, assured the state of their cooperation in achieving the goal of meter provision and ending estimated billing.

The petition, brought by Kingsley Aneubuna, accuses the respondents of forgery, perjury, and criminal misrepresentation stemming from a property transaction regarding a Dutse District plot in Abuja. According to the petitioner, he purchased a terrace duplex on the land in 2018 after receiving assurances from Ezechukwu that the title was unencumbered, only to later discover existing litigation, a court injunction, and the alleged unauthorized use of his name in court processes, alongside a backdated and altered agreement.
During the proceedings, defense counsel D.O. Okolo urged the panel to dismiss the case, citing a letter from the petitioner expressing a desire to withdraw the matter. However, the committee rejected the request, ruling that its regulations do not allow for a withdrawal once issues have been joined, and subsequently reserved its decision for September 30.
