DINABI Advocates For An End To Violence Against Women And Girls With Disabilities

During a one-day training workshop titled “Community Mobilization Against GBV,” sponsored by the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) in Ado-Ekiti, DINABI underscored the importance of empowering women and girls with disabilities to address violence effectively.
Mr. Olajide Funso, the Executive Director of DINABI in Ekiti State, highlighted the workshop’s objective of equipping women and girls with disabilities with the necessary tools to navigate instances of violence. He emphasized the importance of guiding them on accessing appropriate support channels.
Funso also called for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in governmental structures and agencies. He emphasized the need for representation in bodies like the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Coordinating Committee and advocated for the provision of sign language interpreters for enhanced inclusivity.
Adetoun Agboola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, announced the allocation of 3.6 hectares of land in Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti, for the construction of facilities to support individuals with significant disabilities. She outlined plans for a comprehensive setup including housing, recreational facilities, sports amenities, and agricultural initiatives.
Mrs. Adejuwon Yemisi, the Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) for Persons With Disabilities Desk Officer of NSCDC, Ekiti State Command, pledged support for DINABI’s initiative and encouraged victims to speak out against violence.
Representing the Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Omotayo Olatilu highlighted the importance of addressing gender violence and encouraged both women and men to speak out, emphasizing the need for intervention and support.
Mrs. Ogundele Seun Olamide, representing the Ekiti State Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), commended DINABI for its efforts in combating gender-based violence against women. She expressed readiness for collaboration and reiterated the importance of collective action in addressing this critical issue.

The petition, brought by Kingsley Aneubuna, accuses the respondents of forgery, perjury, and criminal misrepresentation stemming from a property transaction regarding a Dutse District plot in Abuja. According to the petitioner, he purchased a terrace duplex on the land in 2018 after receiving assurances from Ezechukwu that the title was unencumbered, only to later discover existing litigation, a court injunction, and the alleged unauthorized use of his name in court processes, alongside a backdated and altered agreement.
During the proceedings, defense counsel D.O. Okolo urged the panel to dismiss the case, citing a letter from the petitioner expressing a desire to withdraw the matter. However, the committee rejected the request, ruling that its regulations do not allow for a withdrawal once issues have been joined, and subsequently reserved its decision for September 30.
