Speaking during a special session of the National Assembly commemorating President Tinubu’s one-year anniversary in office, Akpabio expressed his belief that bringing back the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee,’ marks the beginning of a much-anticipated transformation for Nigerians.

Akpabio emphasized that this move promotes a sense of unity and solidarity among Nigerians, bridging tribal and linguistic divides.

He lauded Tinubu for his notable achievements in his first year as president and underscored the significance of reinstating the old national anthem during this period.

“Among the many notable things you have accomplished, one of the most profound is taking us back to our roots.

“Our roots of origin, where although we hail from different tribes and speak different languages, from now on, we shall not merely consider ourselves compatriots but brothers. As we progress in battles, sports, or other endeavors, we shall hail Nigeria,” Akpabio remarked.

In what he described as a symbolic gesture, the Senate President noted Tinubu’s visit to the National Assembly as a mark of respect for the parliament.

He stated, “Before your arrival, myself and my colleague, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, elucidated the purpose of your visit.

“In Nollywood, what you’ve just done is what they call ‘waka pass.’ You intend to celebrate Democracy Day on June 12, but out of respect for the National Assembly, you insisted on passing through on your first anniversary.

“There’s no better place to kickstart this transformation than by reconnecting with our roots.

“In the National Assembly, we aren’t just representatives; we are elected representatives of all Nigerians. The voice of the National Assembly resonates as the voice of Nigeria.”

In response, Tinubu commended the lawmakers for their understanding and cooperation, describing them as rare leaders that Nigeria has long awaited.

“I’ve come to express my gratitude. You are leaders who speak for our people above all else. You have been at the forefront of this struggle. This institution of esteemed chambers embodies our yearning for freedom and a sense of belonging.

“You’ve introduced the latest National Anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee.’ This embodies our diversity,” the Nigerian leader affirmed.
