Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene, describing how the speeding SUV crashed into the truck with such force that it immediately caught fire upon impact. Despite swift emergency response efforts, both occupants, including a male adult, were tragically burnt beyond recognition.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the details of the accident, emphasizing the severity of the collision. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding was a significant contributing factor to the tragic incident.

Emergency response teams, including the Fire unit, Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Ambulances Service (LASAMBUS), promptly mobilized to the scene. Despite their efforts, the lives of the occupants could not be saved.

Following the evacuation of the victims and the wreckage, normal traffic movement was restored in the area by the following morning. The remains of the deceased were handled by SEHMU officials and transferred to the morgue for further procedures.

This devastating accident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and exercising caution while driving. It underscores the tragic consequences of reckless driving behavior and the imperative need for heightened awareness and vigilance on the roads to prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future.
