A recent meeting between Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the 2023 elections, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) has been described as a normal interaction between friends by Rilwan Olanrewaju, a PDP chieftain. During an interview with Legit, Olanrewaju noted that the meeting between Atiku and Obi was merely a courtesy visit, highlighting their longstanding friendship and brotherhood. He dismissed the idea that the meeting was indicative of any immediate political maneuvering or alliance.
“H.E. Alhaji Abubakar and H.E. Peter Obi are friends and brothers. I don’t see any permutations yet, as it’s still very premature. It’s normal for two friends to meet and spend time together,” Olanrewaju stated.
He also suggested that Nigerians’ eagerness to see two influential figures collaborate to revive the country’s fortunes might be fueling over-interpretations of the meeting. While acknowledging the possibility of future cooperation between the two politicians, Olanrewaju advised against reading too much into the encounter at this stage.
“I understand Nigerians’ anticipation and passion to see two brilliant minds working together in the future. In politics, everything is possible, but in my opinion, two friends met, and I don’t think we should read too much into the media speculations, especially from the ruling APC,” he added.
The PDP chieftain’s remarks aimed to quell the political rumors and focus on the simplicity of the interaction between Atiku and Obi. Olanrewaju concluded by expressing his hope for potential future collaboration between the two leaders while emphasizing that, for now, it is simply a matter of friendship and camaraderie
