PUNCH Metro learned that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a hilly road, resulting in the truck smashing into the building. The impact destroyed two luxury cars, a perimeter fence, a gate, and several structural pillars.

The incident occurred after the driver ignored warnings from the Chief Security Officer of the estate. Heavy-duty vehicles are prohibited in the estate due to its topographic challenges. However, the driver insisted on continuing to his destination to offload the cement at an uncompleted building.

An anonymous source from the estate explained, “The driver tried to negotiate the hill, but the weight of the cement caused the vehicle to descend rapidly, crashing into the residential building and damaging the two cars, the perimeter fence, gate, walls, and pillars.”

Uche Adoga, the landlord and a retired civil servant, recounted the harrowing experience. “My family and I were upstairs in our one-storey duplex when we heard a deafening noise around 8 am. I was shocked and momentarily lost consciousness upon seeing the damage. My two cars, including a newly purchased one and a Venzer jeep, were completely destroyed. The truck smashed through the compound, demolishing the fence gate, walls, pillars, and other items.”

The driver, who was allegedly making calls during the incident, attempted to flee but was apprehended by residents and sympathizers. He is currently detained at the 3’3 Police Station. Despite the significant damage, the driver’s employer has not reached out to assess the situation or discuss reparations with Adoga, leaving him and his family frustrated.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of 3’3 Police Station, CSP Chukwunonso Onunkwo, was unavailable, but a senior officer confirmed the driver’s detention without providing further comments.

The club’s revenue saw a 1.7 percent boost, largely propelled by a nearly 20 percent increase in broadcasting income following a third-place finish in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season. However, both commercial and matchday revenues dropped by nearly 5 percent due to playing without European football.

Key highlights from the financial report include:

  • Seventh Consecutive Loss: The accounts marked United’s seventh straight annual loss after tax, which included £8.2 million in exceptional costs mainly linked to the departure of manager Ruben Amorim in January after 14 months in charge.

Despite the positive financial outlook and a return to Champions League football under manager Michael Carrick, the team has faced a rocky start to the new Premier League campaign, picking up five points from their first five matches and exiting the English League Cup.
