Labour Party Crisis: Abure’s Woes Deepen After Obi’s Visit

The Labour Party (LP) has been thrown into further disarray following a surprise visit by the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to its headquarters in Abuja. Initially perceived as an endorsement of the national chairman, Julius Abure, Obi’s visit took a dramatic turn when Abure was subsequently suspended from the party over the weekend……..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abure’s suspension stems from allegations of high-handedness and anti-party activities, with the Ward 3 in Arue-Uromi, Edo State, issuing a letter of suspension against him. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Abure was advised to refrain from representing himself as a party member.

Obi’s visit, which was interpreted as a reconciliatory gesture, seemed to have inadvertently contributed to Abure’s woes. Although Abure seized the opportunity to call for unity within the party, the fallout from the visit led to his suspension.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, the Edo State chairman of the Labour Party, Hon Kelly Ogbaloi, confirmed the suspension, citing heavy allegations against Abure. Ogbaloi emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the accusations.

Obi’s association with Abure has divided stakeholders within the Labour Party, with some expressing dismay over his perceived reluctance to address the leadership crisis. Despite speculation about his intentions, Obi’s camp maintains that his visit was aimed at fostering reconciliation within the party.

However, dissenting voices within the party, such as Chief Patrick Eholor and Mr. Peters Olaigama, have criticized Obi for his perceived alignment with Abure. They argue that Obi’s failure to condemn Abure’s alleged misconduct raises questions about his commitment to the party’s ideals.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor and spokesperson for the LP Presidential Campaign Organization, announced his disassociation from the Abure-led National Working Committee, citing corruption and incompetence within the party leadership.

As tensions within the Labour Party escalate, stakeholders await clarification from Obi regarding his stance on Abure’s leadership. The outcome of this internal turmoil could have significant implications for the party’s future and its ability to compete in upcoming elections.
