29-Year-Old Sentenced To Death By Hanging In Ekiti

Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has sentenced 29-year-old Adedayo Olawole to death by hanging for the murder of Chukwudi Joseph.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adedayo was first arraigned on March 29, 2023, facing charges of conspiracy and murder.

On Monday, the court also sentenced Adedayo to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy in the murder, without an option of fine.

The charges stated, “Adedayo Olawole and others now at large at Eporo in Emure Ekiti did conspire to murder Chukwudi Joseph.”

These offences are contrary to Sections 244 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, Nigeria, 2021.

An eyewitness, a cousin to the deceased, testified that the defendant and others assaulted Chukwudi with planks before one of them fatally stabbed him in the chest.

The prosecutor, Ibironke Odetola, presented six witnesses and submitted various exhibits, including the defendant’s statements and pictures of the deceased.

In his defense, Adedayo, represented by his lawyer M.A. Daramola, called one witness.

Justice Jubril Aladejana concluded that the evidence showed a clear intent to kill, noting that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant and others conspired to commit the murder on December 10, 2021.

The judge stated, “On count one (Conspiracy), the defendant is sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine;

“On count two (Murder), the sentence of this court upon Adedayo Olawole is that you shall be hanged by the neck until you be dead. May God have mercy on your soul.”
