‘Why I Quit My Job As An Undertaker’ – Comedian Destalker....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Nigerian comedian Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, better known by his stage name Destalker, recently shared the reason behind his decision to leave his job as a pallbearer. In an interview with TVC, Destalker recounted a traumatic incident that led him to quit despite initially enjoying the work and considering starting his own undertaker band……CONTINUE READING
Destalker explained that he initially joined the undertaker band as a dancer due to his proficiency in dancing, specifically mentioning his prowess in Makossa, for which he had won accolades in his neighborhood. Over time, he transitioned from dancing to carrying caskets, which he found enjoyable.
However, his enthusiasm was abruptly halted during a particular job transporting a female corpse from Asaba to Igbuzo. Upon arrival, the deceased’s children requested that the pallbearers dance with the casket as they entered the compound. While following this request and throwing the casket into the air, it suddenly broke into pieces. Destalker discovered that the casket was of poor quality, which caused it to shatter during the performance.
This incident left him terrified and disillusioned with the job, leading him to abandon his aspirations of running his own undertaker band. The experience was enough to make Destalker lose interest in the profession entirely.
Reflecting on the event, he remarked, “When I joined the undertaker band initially, I wasn’t carrying caskets. I was only dancing because I know how to dance very well. I won best Makossa dancer in my street before. But after six or seven months, I started carrying caskets. I was really enjoying it but there was an incident that happened. Let me tell you why I stopped because by now I’m supposed to have my own undertaker band. We went to carry a female corpse from Asaba to Igbuzo. When we were about to enter the compound, the children of the deceased asked us to dance with the casket. As we were throwing it up, suddenly, it shattered. The coffin is fake. It wasn’t funny. That was how I lost interest in the undertaker job.”
This dramatic turn of events shifted Destalker’s career path, pushing him towards comedy, where he has since found success and recognition.
