A train traveling from Kaduna to Abuja derailed on Sunday morning, causing alarm among passengers and prompting swift response efforts. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM near Jere, roughly an hour after the train departed from Kaduna at 8:05 AM. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported……..CONTINUE READING
The train, carrying dozens of passengers, derailed in a mountainous region, making rescue and repair operations more challenging. Emergency services, including soldiers and police officers, were rapidly dispatched to the scene to secure the area and aid in recovery efforts. Three carriages of the train were confirmed to have derailed.
Efforts are underway to repair the train and restore it to full operational status.
Wike Postpones Inauguration of Abuja Metro Rail, Announces New Date
In related news, the planned inauguration of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit has been rescheduled from May 27 to May 29, 2024. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced through Anthony Ogunleye, spokesperson for the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, that President Bola Tinubu will perform the inauguration at 1:00 PM on May 29th as part of the events marking his first year in office.
Additionally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, revealed plans for the federal government to offer Nigerians two months of free rides on the Abuja light rail service. This initiative will begin following the inauguration, as announced during a ministerial press briefing in Abuja reviewing President Tinubu’s administration’s one-year performance.
