SERAP’s Recommendations:

1. Publish Assets: SERAP encouraged Tinubu to publish his own asset declaration forms and to persuade Vice-President Kashim Shettima, ministers, and state governors to do the same.
2. Constitutional Amendment: The organization proposed that Tinubu should advocate for a constitutional amendment that would mandate the creation of asset declaration databases, ensuring that officials’ assets are disclosed before, during, and after their public service.
3. Public Trust and Accountability: SERAP emphasized that publishing asset declaration forms would serve the public interest, foster public trust, and establish a system of transparency and accountability.

Tinubu’s Inaugural Promise: SERAP reminded Tinubu of his promise during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, where he committed to taking proactive steps to discourage corruption and to ensure Nigeria is governed impartially according to the constitution and the rule of law.

By publishing his assets and encouraging his administration to do the same, President Tinubu would not only be adhering to his initial promises but also setting a precedent for future administrations, thereby promoting a culture of accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s governance.
