In a statement issued on Friday, Igboayaka recalled that on April 30, 2023, the council had previously disclosed to the Public Petitions Committee of the National Assembly that 5,000 Nigerian youths were being held in captivity in 13 different prisons in the Republic of Benin.

The statement further revealed, “During the second Summon at Public Petition Committee hearing room National Assembly Abuja on May 23, 2024, the House Chairman on Public Petition Committee, Mike Etaba, adopted the list of 578 detainees from Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) as a working document for investigation and intervention by the federal government.”

It continued, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier been petitioned during the first summon on April 30, 2024, and had requested more time to reach out to the Benin Republic Government.”

In response, Chairman Mike Etaba summoned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide quick feedback concerning their efforts to ascertain the actual number of Nigerians in Benin Republic prisons.

Igboayaka emphasized the plight of Nigerian youths engaged in legitimate business who now find themselves detained in Benin Republic, urging the Committee to take swift action to rescue these innocent individuals facing excruciating agony in Benin Republic Prisons.

The club’s revenue saw a 1.7 percent boost, largely propelled by a nearly 20 percent increase in broadcasting income following a third-place finish in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season. However, both commercial and matchday revenues dropped by nearly 5 percent due to playing without European football.

Key highlights from the financial report include:
