Amid questions about the cases of Kanu and Omoyele Sowore, Fagbemi emphasized that their situations are distinct. Notably, he made no reference to Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba Nation activist who was recently released by the Federal Government.

When pressed on why Sowore and Igboho were released while Kanu remains in custody, Fagbemi reiterated the divergence between Kanu’s case and others. “Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore’s case are not the same. If I see Sowore, I don’t know him, if I see Nnamdi Kanu, I don’t know him,” he stated.

Fagbemi emphasized that Kanu is being held in accordance with the rule of law and court procedures. “So, Nnamdi Kanu is being held under the rule of law and the court. Let’s wait for the decision of the court. No one will be held outside the laws of the country,” he affirmed.

The Minister’s remarks shed light on the government’s stance regarding Kanu’s detention, positioning it within the framework of legal proceedings while emphasizing the independence of the judiciary in determining outcomes.
