FG Secures 166 Criminal Convictions In One Year – Justice Minister

Presenting his scorecard at the ongoing Ministerial Sectoral Updates in Abuja, Fagbemi highlighted the collaborative efforts between the ministry and relevant security and law enforcement agencies. This partnership aimed at developing a framework for joint investigations and collaboration, thus ensuring successful prosecution without challenges.
Fagbemi announced that among the 166 convictions secured, 87 were related to terrorism cases. He emphasized the significance of resuming the trial of terrorism cases in conjunction with the Legal Aid Council, the National Human Rights Commission, and other stakeholders.
Furthermore, the Minister disclosed that 13 convictions were obtained in cases related to terrorism financing within the same period.
In addition to the convictions, Fagbemi informed the audience that 625 cases were initiated against the President, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and its agencies across various courts within the country and the ECOWAS region.
Responding to concerns about the abduction of journalists, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all citizens. He emphasized that regardless of the individuals involved, everyone would be subject to the laws of the country, affirming the principle of dispensing justice without bias.
Other ministers who presented their scorecards during the event included the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, and Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam.
Prof Ali Pate highlighted efforts made through the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to reduce the circulation of fake drugs, achieving a prevalence rate of fake drugs of less than 10 percent. He also emphasized the ministry’s success in containing the spread of infectious diseases, including meningitis and Lassa fever, among others.
