Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the MNJTF’s Chief Military Public Information Officer, released a statement on Friday confirming the surrender. The terrorist commander, identified as Adamu Mohammed, was among those who laid down their arms. The other terrorists were named as Isah Ali, 18; Hassan Modu, 18; Nasir Idris, 23, an escort for the Commander of Jubillaram Usman Rash; Abba Aji, 21; and Abubakar Isah, 20.
The terrorists reportedly fled from an ISWAP faction hideout in Jubillaram, Southern Lake Chad. Adamu Mohammed, aged 22, had been involved in multiple terrorist attacks and operations in Kangarwa, Alagarno, Doro Naira, and Dogon Chikwu in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State.
During their surrender, they handed over 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one anti-aircraft warhead. The surrendered fighters are currently undergoing investigation.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi noted that since the initiation of Operation Lake Sanity II, aimed at eradicating insurgents in the region, over 100 terrorists have chosen to abandon their violent activities. Specifically, since April 23, 2024, a total of 119 insurgents have surrendered, calling on their fellow insurgents to pursue peace and disarmament.
The recent surrenders mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region, contributing to the broader goal of restoring peace and stability.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
