The suspects, identified as Azuluonye Okonkwo, aged 21, and Anuku Joseph, were apprehended on Monday as a result of the concerted efforts to address the reported cases of armed robbery.

Their arrest came after numerous complaints of armed robbery incidents circulated on various social media channels, prompting the Delta Police to take action. According to Edafe, the arrest was in line with the promise made by CP Abaniwonda Olufemi to apprehend the perpetrators of such crimes.

In his statement, Edafe mentioned: “They confessed their involvement in armed robbery around COKA area, they robbed three houses and the victims came to the headquarters and identified them.

“But one point to note is that in some of the houses they entered around 2 am, their gates were not even locked. Let’s take our security seriously pls.”

This arrest highlights the role of social media in facilitating community vigilance and law enforcement efforts, underscoring the importance of collective action in combating crime.

    • According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the underlying criminal case has already been investigated, received legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and is currently pending before a competent court.

    • Stressing that the case is sub judice, the police emphasized that they refuse to handle the trial through media commentary or allow public campaigns to influence the outcome.

    • The Force CID in Abuja officially invited Otse on July 30, 2026, requesting his physical presence in Abuja to provide evidence substantiating his public claims.

    • Highlighting its dedication to probing all credible misconduct allegations regardless of rank or public status, the police noted that internal discipline follows uniform guidelines under the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, regulations, and administrative procedures.

    • While acknowledging citizens’ constitutional rights to free speech and institutional accountability, the Force cautioned that these rights do not protect defamation or unverified allegations designed to bypass due process.

    • The police stated they may pursue legal remedies if claims are proven false and maliciously intended to tarnish the reputation of the institution or its officers.

    • Ultimately, the police advised Otse to respect the Force CID invitation, cooperate with the administrative review, let the judicial proceedings unfold without interference, and utilize official oversight mechanisms for any grievances.
