In a statement titled “Illusive Politics: What is to be Done,” Lukman criticized Tinubu’s administration for policy missteps and reversals that have eroded public confidence. He lamented that, despite 25 years of democratic governance, Nigeria has yet to produce leaders who genuinely accommodate citizens’ interests.

Lukman articulated his concerns as follows:

  • Policy Failures: The administration’s actions have raised doubts about its ability to address national challenges effectively.
  • Ongoing Insecurity: The crisis of insecurity remains unresolved.
  • Economic Issues: Problems such as inflation, unemployment, and poverty continue to escalate.

Reflecting on the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Lukman described it as a period of “dashed hopes” for citizens. He called on Nigerian citizens and progressive politicians to address what he described as the “ugly and despicable experience of illusive politics.”

After one year in office, Lukman stressed the need for a clear message to be conveyed to President Tinubu and APC leaders: the democratic future of Nigeria is non-negotiable.
