The unfortunate incident unfolded on Thursday, May 16, leaving patrons of the establishment stunned and grieving.
According to reports by Punch, the deceased, described as a regular customer of the open bar, entered, took his seat, and immersed himself in the football match airing on the television screen. However, as the match concluded and excitement filled the air, attempts to rouse the man from his slumber proved futile, as he remained unresponsive.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the tragic occurrence, stating that the incident was reported to the Elere Police Division. He recounted, “He was later observed to be sleeping on the chair and in an attempt to wake him up, it was discovered that he was lifeless.”
Detectives from the division swiftly responded, arriving at the scene to find the man motionless on his chair, devoid of any signs of violence.
The body has since been transferred to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba, Lagos State, for autopsy, as efforts to locate his family are underway.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the unexpected turns it can take, leaving behind a community grappling with grief and unanswered questions.
