Sarkodie’s recent song, ‘Brag,’ sparked some controversy as he asserted his presence in the music industry before the emergence of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. This statement stirred tensions, particularly between Dremo, a former signee of Davido, and Lyrical Joe, Sarkodie’s protege, leading to the release of diss tracks from both camps.
However, during an interview with RODE, Sarkodie clarified that his mention of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy in his song was merely to highlight his extensive tenure in the music scene. He stressed that if he intended to take shots at anyone, it would be directed at fellow rappers, not singers.
Sarkodie explained, “Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.”
He further elaborated, “I am just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there and who else is best to use as reverence? Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake, and Davido. And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists.”
Sarkodie’s clarification aims to dispel any misconceptions surrounding his intentions and reaffirm his respect for the mentioned artists as talented individuals within the music industry.
