The announcement was made by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, during the Living Kidney Donor Day event organized by Nisa Medical Group in Abuja. Representing Prof. Pate, Kamil Shoretire, Head of the Trauma and Emergency Disaster Response Division, highlighted the global prevalence of chronic kidney diseases, affecting approximately 843.6 million people as of 2017.
Prof. Pate emphasized the urgent need for new national guidelines on organ transplants due to the increasing incidences of kidney problems and unethical transplant practices. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to health initiatives and praised Nisa Medical Group for its efforts in addressing kidney-related health issues.
“The number of patients affected by chronic kidney disease has also been increasingly affecting an estimated 843.6 million individuals worldwide as of 2017,” Pate noted. He identified high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, and kidney infections as the leading causes of kidney disease in Nigeria.
In addition to the government’s plans, the event’s discussions underscored the importance of ethical practices in organ transplantation. Ibrahim Wada, CEO of Nisa Medical Group, called for collective efforts to implement the new guidelines and celebrated the altruism of living kidney donors.
Wada, who has been actively involved in the transplant field for about a decade, stressed the need for Nigeria to maintain high standards in its Kidney Transplantation Programme. He urged the Federal Government to enforce the guidelines strictly and ensure compliance.
“Let those who do it understand that the world is watching us and we cannot be at the bottom of the ladder; we can be leaders in this,” Wada stated. He highlighted the government’s regulatory authority to act against non-compliance with the guidelines.
This development marks a significant step toward enhancing the ethical framework and operational standards of organ transplantation in Nigeria, aiming to improve patient outcomes and uphold medical integrity.
I have included specific details about the new policies and guidelines on organ transplants, their context, and the importance of ethical practices in organ donation and transplantation. If you need a deeper focus on any particular aspect or additional information, please let me know.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the claims as false, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary confusion.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to its mission of unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the ballot, stressing that it remains focused on delivering change.
Abdullahi assured that the ADC would field strong and qualified candidates in 2027, adding that the party is not distracted by rumours or political propaganda.
According to the statement, the ADC emphasized that it remains committed to rescuing Nigeria from what it described as the failures of the APC-led government and preventing the emergence of a one-party system.
The party also dismissed suggestions that it faces any legal barrier to participating in the elections, insisting it is fully compliant with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
It further stated that preparations are already underway nationwide to mobilize Nigerians frustrated with insecurity, economic hardship, and lack of opportunities.
Reaffirming its position, the ADC described itself as a leading opposition force and urged supporters to ignore speculation about its electoral plans, stressing that its focus remains on building a winning structure for 2027
