The accident occurred while the women were traveling from Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Council, to Jalingo, the state capital, after attending a conference in Gembu that concluded on Saturday.

Mourners described the incident as a “black Sunday” for both the Christian community and the entire state. Governor Agbu Kefas, expressing his condolences to the victims’ families, acknowledged the tragedy’s impact on the community and the state.

Governor Kefas noted the unfortunate circumstances of the women’s deaths, emphasizing the tragedy of their loss while returning from the WOWICAN conference. He offered prayers for their souls and pledged his administration’s commitment to improving road safety. He has directed local government chairmen to maintain roads, implement proper traffic controls, and ensure basic repairs to prevent future accidents.

The governor promised to work diligently to reduce the frequency of road accidents caused by poor road conditions in the state.
